Chapter 2

A clear crescent moon floated in the night sky above Beika town’s residential area which had lights lined up in a row.

Haibara Ai, who was on the sofa in Agasa’s living room faced Conan and clicked her ball pen while staring at it with a cold look.

“No.”

“Just help me out!”

Edogawa Conan stood up from the sofa and lowered his head. Haibara crossed her arms and turned her head away sharply.

“No means no!”

“Please!”

Conan continued to lower his head, then Professor Agasa who was making black tea came out from the kitchen.

“What’s going on, the two of you.”

“He wants to use the experimental antidote again and return to his original body.”

Haibara said, sounding exasperated.

“You already caused so much problems even on your school excursion!”

“But I got through it with no problem somehow. So it’ll be fine. Please give me the antidote!”

Conan, whose head was still lowered, stuck out his hands in front of him.

“N.O. No~~~!!”

Haibara looked at Conan with a stern expression then Professor Agasa set down the teacup he was holding on the table.

“Where in the world are you planning to go?”

“Singapore.”

Haibara replied with a sigh.

“Professor, it’s about this.”

Conan passed him a flyer which had English words on it that had been placed on the sofa.

It was an announcement for a [Singapore Karate Tournament]. Right in the middle of the flyer was the picture of the champion belt that had a large sapphire jewel on it.

“That person is going to be in this competition. The one that’s undefeated in four hundred fights.”

“Oh, you mean Kyougoku Makoto-kun?”

Professor Agasa hit his fist against his hand with a pon.

Sonoko said she was going to go over to watch the matches. Kogoro-occhan and Ran are going as well. I was invited too…….but I can’t leave the country looking like this.”

Conan gave a strained smile as he pulled out his passport from the inner pocket of his jacket.

“I see. The passport belongs to Shinichi.”

“That’s why I’m begging you, Haibara!”

Conan put his hands together in front of his face but,

“You’re too persistent!”

Haibara said in an unapproachable manner.

“You should give up this time……”

Professor Agasa was on the same wavelength as Haibara and Conan was crestfallen.

“Haa~, I really wanted to go……”

Then Professor Agasa grinned with obvious intentions.

“You’re probably disappointed but……right then, let’s give a shot at distracting you!”

“Eh, you’re doing it now?!”

Conan was alarmed. Haibara looked at Professor Agasa with an icy expression.

“South East A—-sian! Quiz!!”

Professor Agasa twirled around in circles and while doing so, he removed his white coat and threw it energetically. What appeared from beneath the white coat that was sent flying into the air was Progessor Agasa who was wearing a Merlion costume.

“What’s the most popular event in Singapore?! One, singing the National Athemn. Two, celebrating Lunar New Year. Three, raising the national flag. Four, fireworks display at Marina Bay!

“……What’s with that appearance?”

In front of Haibara who had an astonished expression, Conan wrote the four answers on the back of the flyer using Haibara’s ball point pen.

“The answer is simple. It’s number three, raising the national flag. Because it’s 芯がポール* (Singapore).”

(T/N: Singapore in Japanese is Shin Ga Pooru which sounds like “The core is the pole.” i.e. everything revolves around the pole which refers to raising the flag. )

Conan said that and circled the third answer with the ball point pen.

“Ohh, that’s correct. As expected from you—alright, another question.”

Professor Agasa was planning to remove the Merlion costume when,

“I had enough.”

Conan folded the flyer and got up. Sticking the ball point pen into the front pocket of his shirt, he headed for the entrance.

“Eh? Wah! Ow ow….”

Professor Agasa was in the midst of removing the costume when he turned his head towards Conan when his feet got caught in the costume and he fell over on the spot with a thud.

“It really is lonely without those kids……”

Professor Agasa grumbled as he lay on the ground. Haibara let out a strained smile at his remark.

After stepping out of Professor Agasa’s house, Conan trudged along the dimly lit pavement.

“Tch, that Haibara……”

If Haibara did not make the antidote, there was no way he could go to Singapore.

Was giving up his only option……?

Walking along the road of the residential area which had fallen into deathly silence—he could hear footsteps coming from behind him.

Conan stopped at the side of a vending machine and took a fleeting glance behind him.

No one was there—

In the middle of the silence, the low humming sound of vending machine rang out.

Conan started walking again. While walking slowly, he clasped his right hand over the anesthetic gun wristwatch strapped on his left wrist.

Once he did so, he could hear the footsteps again. The foot falls were faster than earlier and became louder.

Conan also picked up his pace. His brisk walking became a run and after turning a corner, he skidded quickly to a stop and faced the direction of where he came from. He lifted the cover of his anesthetic gun wristwatch and got it ready.

Who was it—Conan peered through the scope and narrowed the eye that was looking through it.

The sound of the footsteps gradually grew closer and the silhouette of a person appeared from the corner. The streetlights shone on the person and Conan got surprised when he saw who it was.

“Ran……Ah, Ran-nee chan……!”

The one who appeared from the corner was Ran.

Conan was flabbergasted for a short moment then frantically hid both his hands behind his back.

“What are you doing here………?”

Ran, who was wearing her school uniform, did not say anything and slowly got closer.

Conan felt that something was out of place as her form drew closer.

Why was she still wearing her school uniform when it was this late at night?

Also, this feeling, he felt it before somewhere……

“Ran-nee cha—”

“I’ve been waiting for a while.”

Ran stopped right in front of Conan then gave a wide grin as she said that.

The moment Conan saw that malicious smile—his consciousness abruptly went away.

Conan opened his eyes as he heard murmuring voices from far away.

However, even though his eyes were supposed to be open, it was completely dark and he could not see anything.

Furthermore, his entire body was curled in a foetal position and his arms and legs were wrapped around something making it impossible to move.

(What…is this place…….)

His curled up body was clamped between cushions or something similar. He tried to move his arms and legs but they immediately hit the soft walls and were pushed back. The moment he realised he was in a cramped space,

“That’s really huge.”

He heard a familiar voice.

(That’s Ran’s voice!)

“That water turned red a couple of days ago.”

“I saw that on the news too. It caused a huge stir on the internet too and it seemed to have been reported on global news.”

He also heard Sonoko’s voice.

“But they still don’t know the reason behind it.”

“Let’s get closer to it.”

“Ok!”

(Where is this? I’m trapped in something?! Damn!)

Conan desperately stretched his arms out and searched around the cushion like material that he was crammed in between. His hands slid around the cushioned space and one of them hit a hard object.

(Hm? Alright, let’s use this……)

That was Haibara’s ball point pen which he put into his front chest pocket.

Conan clicked the pen and extended his hand out. He hit a wall at the end of the cushion then the tip of the pen came into contact with something.

A zipper.

He used force on the tip of the pull pen and it pierced through before he moved it horizontally. The zipper opened and light shone in.

“Ngh!!”

Conan closed his eyes instinctively due to the brightness then immediately stuck his hand between the open zipper section and pushed upwards.

The object that Conan was trapped in was a large suitcase that had been lined with some cushioning.

After opening the suitcase, Conan was scorched by the rays of the hot sun. Humid air clung onto his body.

Furthermore, when Conan opened his eyes fully—what came to his line of sight was a small Merlion statue that was about two metres tall. Water sprayed out from its mouth.

“Merli…on…?”

Conan could not believe his eyes. Right at that moment, children with unfamiliar features laughed heartily as they ran behind the statue of the Merlion. Furthermore, what he could see ahead were palm trees and an enormous Merlion statue spitting water in the direction of Marina bay. Also, on the other side were three distinctive tall towers—

“Wha……Is this Singaporeeeeeee?!!”

Conan, who was unable to grasp the situation, was dumbfounded for a while at the scenery that he was looking at. Before long, he got out of the suitcase and got nearer to a mini Merlion statue that was behind the larger one. He looked at his own face that was reflected on the surface of the pond and was taken aback. His skin was tanned.

“Wha…….! My……hands?”

The hands which touched his face were also tanned and he was shocked. Now that he observed himself carefully, his clothes also been changed. The half sleeved shirt and shorts he was wearing seemed like the style of the local children.

“Professor’s gadgets are missing as well……”

His criminal tracking glasses, anaesthetic gun wrist watch as well his power enhancing kick shoes were not on his body.

What the heck is this. What in the world happened to me–?!

The memory of Ran’s voice suddenly appeared in Conan’s confused mind.

He had heard Ran’s voice when he was still inside that suitcase.

“That’s right. Ran should be here……!”

Conan broke into a run. He ran around the Merlion park that was bustling with large crowds of tourists, searching for Ran’s figure.

Then, he spotted Mouri Ran and Suzuki Sonoko walking around the Merlion statue.

“Wait up! Ran-nee chan!!”

Perhaps Ran noticed Conan’s voice and she turned her head. However, she quickly looked in a different direction and raised her arm.

“Ah, Shinichi! Over here!”

(Eh?)

Conan who was in the midst of getting to Ran stopped dead in his tracks, stunned.

“Sorry, sorry. I kept you waiting!”

Shockingly—Kudo Shinichi was in front of Conan. He approached Ran with a smile on his face.

“Where did you go? I was looking for you!”

“Occhan said it was hot so I was looking for some shady place for him.”

Shinichi turned his head towards Mouri Kogorou who was resting on a bench under the shade of the trees.

“Eh-………Thanks……”

Ran, who was staring at Shinichi, smiled sweetly.

“Oji-sama is still the same as ever, huh?”

Sonoko stood behind Ran while holding her shoulder and looked blankly at Kogorou’s face. Then,

“O-ii, Ran! Help me buy some water, please~!”

Kogorou cried out while fanning himself in an unsightly manner.

“Guess we have no choice…Hey, shall we go together?”

Ran said and suddenly held onto Shinichi’s hand.

“Eh?”

“Come on, hurry!”

“Ah……ye, yeah.”

Looking at the two holding hands as they walked off, Sonoko grinned in a cat like way.

“What……aren’t those two looking good. <3”

Sonoko walked off chasing after the two, then Conan poked his face out from the palm tree he was hiding behind.

(That bastard……!!)

He glared at the Shinichi who was walking while holding Ran’s hand with hatred.

Once Ran handed Kogorou the bottle of water she bought, he gulped it down at one go.

“Fu~ I’m revived.”

And he placed the bottle on the bench. Ran noticed a thin transparent case that was hanging from Kogorou’s neck.

“Areh? Otou-san, what’s that on your neck?”

“Hagh? My passport is inside. This way I won’t lose it and it won’t get stolen. It’s great~”

“Really, Otou-san, even if you didn’t do that, Singapore is a safe place.”

From the shrubbery that was next to Shinichi, who was listening to the conversation between the father and daughter pair, a rustling sound could be heard. Shinichi stealthily moved away from Ran and the rest and crouched next to the shrubbery.

“Yo, you’re awake?”

Once he spoke, with a rustle, Conan left the shade of the shrubbery.

“It really is you, bastard…….”

Shinichi chuckled with a heh heh when Conan glared at him.

“Anyway, how did you get out of the suitcase?”

“With this.”

Conan took the ball point pen from the pocket of his shorts and showed it to Shinichi.

“If you insert the tip between the zipper, it’s easy to open even from the inside.”

“……I thought the pen wouldn’t be an issue but I guess I should have been more careful.”

Shinichi said, then he stood up and started to run off. Conan also left the shrubbery and followed while he continued to talk.

“Those should be my lines. Kaito Kid!”

As Kid, who had disguised as Shinichi, heard the voice from behind him, he turned his head and suddenly grinned.

The suitcase that Conan was put into was left lying open next to the mini Merlion.

“Oh–, it’s here, it’s here!”

Kid quickly approached the suitcase, feeling relieved.

“Rather than that, what the hell are you planning?!”

Conan caught up with Kid and questioned him while grabbing onto the shirt that Kid was wearing.

“Pfft, even though you see through a lot of things.”

Kid closed the zipper of the suitcase, put it upright then squatted on the ground and folded his hands on top of the suitcase. He then rested his chin on top of his hands.

“Fu fu, it’s that.”

“Eh?”

Conan followed Kid’s line of sight and turned his head. Once he did, he saw a banner advertisement that was handing from one of the street lamps which said [Singapore Karate Tournament]. It was the same as what Conan saw on the flyer, a championship belt that had been adorned with a large sapphire stone was on the banner.

“That’s from the flyer that Sonoko…….”

“That’s the legendary treasure that sunk together with its pirate ship near the Singapore coast during the nineteenth century—the world’s largest sapphire, also known as the [Fist of Blue Sapphire]. A big jewel that a certain Zhong Han Chen-shi successfully pulled out last year.”

“This Zhong Han Chen is one of the big shots in Singapore.”

Conan said and Kid nodded with a “Yup.”

“And this Ossan loves martial arts. He decided to hold a karate tournament with this jewel embedded in the championship belt.”

“So the legendary jewel gets passed to the hands of the winner……huh, I guess that’s the hobby of the rich.”

“That’s how it is. I thought of just helping myself to the jewel during the flurry of the tournament but I wouldn’t be able to enter this country as Kid.”

Conan took a glance at the advertisement banner.

“If you were just aiming for the jewel, you don’t have to bring me along, right?”

“There’s a bit of special circumstances this time, whatever, I tell you more about it as we go along.”

Kid stood upright and pulled up the handle of the suitcase.

“Is it alright for you to be talking so leisurely? You brought me here for your selfish aims, right about now, Professor Agasa and Haibara …….”

Conan hounded Kid for more answers and the latter bent over and brought his face closer.

“You don’t have to worry about that.”

That night, after Conan lost consciousness, Kid, who had disguised as Ran, called Professor Agasa mimicking Conan’s voice.

[Ah, Professor Agasa? It’s me. It seems like the trip changed from Singapore to Hokkaido so I’m able to go as Conan. I won’t be contactable for a while, thanks.]

Kid let out a grin after he informed Conan what he told Professor Agasa over the phone.

“I covered all my bases.”

“You scumbag-……”

The moment Conan shot a glare at Kid, he heard Ran’s voice from the direction of the benches.

“Areh, Shinichi? He disappeared again?!”

Ran and Sonoko were walking around while looking at their surroundings.

“Oh dear, I’ve been called.”

“Wait, Kid!”

Conan grabbed onto Kid’s sleeve while Kid straightened himself up.

“If you do anything to Ran, I’m going to make you regret it!”

Kid instinctively flinched in response to the threat.

“I, I’m sorry but I can’t guarantee that.”

“Then I’m going to reveal your true identity right here and now!”

Conan dashed off. However, Kid only straightened his back while muttering “good grief” without showing any signs of anxiety.

“It’s better if you stop that.”

Conan halted in his tracks when he heard Kid’s words. Conan turned his head and saw Kid walking towards him leisurely while holding onto the suitcase.

“It’s all thanks to this suitcase that you’re able to come to this country. It’s specially made so that X-rays at the baggage check area can’t penetrate it. It’s also a quality product which contains an oxygen generator that can run for twelve hours and cushioning that you can lie on for long periods of time without feeling sore—you do know what that means, great detective?”

Kid said with a triumphant expression as he lightly knocked on the suitcase.

“Without my help, you, who has no passport, won’t be able to leave this country. You won’t be able to return to Japan.”

Conan did not say anything in response and gritted his teeth.

It was exactly as what Kid said. [Edogawa Conan] who had no passport could not do anything—

“There you are! Shinichi!”

Ran’s voice came from behind Conan and his shoulders jolted upwards in surprise.

Conan immediately tried to run away but Ran and Sonoko were already close to reaching him,

“We need to head somewhere else soon……”

and the two stopped right behind Conan.

“Eh……?!”

“Is, isn’t this the brat? Why are you here?!”

Conan, whose face was being peered at by Sonoko closely, ran towards Kid’s direction and hid behind the suitcase.

“Conan-kun?”

“See? You got surprised by him too huh? He’s a kid from here.”

Kid said nonchalantly to Ran and Sonoko who were staring intensely at Conan.

“Ehh?! Is that so? If that’s the case, they’re really way too alike.”

Sonoko and Ran believed it without any resistance.

(The two of you are too easy to deceive……)

Conan retorted in his mind then Ran walked closer to Conan and squatted behind him.

“Boy, what’s your name?—Eh, do you understand Japanese?”

Ran asked, held onto both of Conan’s shoulders and turned him around.

When Ran looked at Conan’s face closely, she raised her eyebrows at the appearance that was all too similar.

“E, eh—um…….”

The memory of Conan introducing himself as [Edogawa Conan] in the library of his own home for the first time resurfaced in his mind.

“…….Arthur! My name is Arthur Hirai!”

“Arthur Hirai…….?”

“My mother is Japanese…….So that’s why……”

A mischievous smirk appeared on Kid’s face as he looked at Conan who suddenly introduced himself with a fake name. Then Sonoko also bent over and looked at Conan.

“I’m Suzuki Sonoko.”

“And I’m Mouri Ran.”

Ran introduced herself then she picked Conan up and turned to the direction of the benches.

“The person who’s over there is my father, Mouri Kogorou. Nice to meet you.”

“Ye, yeah. Nice to meet you……”

Ran sat Conan on top of the suitcase and he gave a strained smile. Right after that, Sonoko, who had her smart phone in her hand, left the area saying “Sorry, I have to go somewhere.”

With a curious expression, Conan looked at Sonoko’s back as she ran towards the direction of the Merlion statue then,

“Boy, where’s your father and mother?”

Ran was studying Conan’s face again.

“Eh, umm……they went to Japan.”

“Ehh?! Arthur-kun, they left you here alone?”

“Yup. But I’m okay with it. I’m used to it.”

“I see……”

Next to Ran who was looking in a worried manner, Kid opened his mouth.

“If that’s the case, why not let him come along with us?”

“……Is that alright?”

Conan said in the bright voice of a child. However, the eyes that were looking at Kid were not smiling at all.

“Ah, of course.”

Kid narrowed his eyes, grinning meaningfully.

Ran observed the faces that the two were making with a curious expression then,

“Ah, right. I’ll go get my father.”

And she went off towards the benches.

“At any rate, he’s really late. He could just send me a text……”

In the middle of the large crowd of tourists who were visiting the Merlion Park, with the pier next to the Merlion statue being especially so, Sonoko was jumping around and looking around her surroundings.

“We’re supposed to meet here~~”

Sonoko stopped jumping and she started typing a text message.

Then, beyond the pier where Sonoko was standing, a group of rough looking Japanese walked over.

“Tch, Oi oi, you’re in my way! Scram! What are you looking at, huh?!”

Several tough looking men dressed in black were surrounding a man who was wearing a T-shirt and shorts and they were walking while yelling in Japanese.

“What’s up with them?”

Kid who was next to the mini Merlion gave a puzzled look at the group who were no doubt very eye catching.

“The one right in the centre is Nakatomi Reijirou.”

Conan said and Kid put his hand under his chin muttering “Nakatomi…….”

“Ah, The president of Nakatomi Shipping’s……”

“He’s a person who has the reputation of being highly capable but there are constant negative rumors about him. It’s been said that he has connections with both politicians and gangs.”

“Why is someone like him in Singapore?”

“Who knows. Maybe he’s just on a vacation?”

As Conan gave that reply, he noticed that Reijirou was drawing closer to Sonoko.

“Hey, girly. Did you come to Singapore alone?”

Sonoko, who was typing a message raised her head, then the flashy looking man who seemed to be in his thirties and was followed by black clothed bodyguards stood right in front of her eyes.

“If you’d like, I……”

“I don’t have time for that right now. I’m going somewhere.”

Sonoko turned sideways and continued typing her message.

“Should you be saying something like that? If that’s what you want then if it’s just you, it’s easy for me to bring you around with a car.”

Ran who was sitting next to Kogorou at the benches realised that Sonoko was being disturbed by some thugs on top of the bridge.

“Sonoko!”

With the intention of helping, Ran rushed forward only to have her wrist grabbed from behind her.

“Shinichi!”

“It’s not necessary .”

“Eh?”

Ran turned back to the direction of the bridge, surprised. As she did so, behind Reijirou, who had grabbed Sonoko’s shoulder roughly, she saw the black clothed man collapsing onto the ground one by one.

Right in the centre of the group of black clothed man, there was someone who took out the last person with a perfect over the shoulder throw.

“Guahh!”

The black clothed man’s back hit the ground and after letting out a short cry, he lay on the ground limply.

The man who won the fight with a decisive over the shoulder throw got up and the tourists around him started cheering.

“Karate!”

“Samurai!”

The man, who wore a black tank top that showed off his strong muscular body, suddenly turned his head back to Reijirou and Sonoko’s direction. A sharp gaze was directed at them from the back of his glasses.

“She’s with me, what do you want?”

That man was Kyougoku Makoto.

“Ba……Bastard!!”

“Makoto-san! You could have read my messages!”

Sonoko puffed out her cheeks and Kyougoku scratched his head, looking apologetic.

“Sorry, I’m not that good at machines……”

At that time—Rejirou suddenly came over, intending to start a fight. However, Makoto dodged with ease and after grabbing Reijirou’s wrist, he twisted it and Reijirou hit the ground.

“I’ll……I’ll remember this! I won’t let you off!!”

Reijirou got up using his hands and knees and threw those lines out as he escaped with the black clothed man.

Once again, the tourists cheered shouting “Oh~, Samurai!”

“Makoto-san!”

Sonoko got close to Kyougoku then hugged his arm.

“Sonoko was so scared~~~~”

“I apologise for being late.”

The tourists started approaching Kyougoku who was apologizing.
“Hey! Karate boy!”

“Nice guts!”

Kyougoku was getting high-fives and handshakes, then he suddenly saw that his arm was being grabbed on by Sonoko. Sonoko, who had hugged him without thinking, also returned to her senses and the two distanced themselves then,

“Hey! Shy guy!”

A tourist saw the two being embarrassed and he laughed while slapping Kyougoku on the back. After that, Ran ran over. Kid and Conan also walked over.

“Sonoko! Are you alright?”

“Yep. Makoto-san protected me.”

“Kyougoku-san, it’s been a while.”

Ran greeted him and Kyougoku lowered his head slightly while saying “Same here.”

Then he looked at Kid who was standing behind Ran.

“……And you are?”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Kudo Shinichi.”

“Kyougoku Makoto.”

Kyougoku showed a broad smile then he suddenly stared at Kid with a serious expression.

Conan, who was standing next to Kid, glanced upward at Kid.

“Makoto-san, what’s wrong?”

Sonoko asked then Kyougoku smiled slightly.

“It’s nothing. I just feel that this should not be the first time I met Kudo-kun……”

He said while casting a doubtful stare at Kid again.

Conan and Kid jolted in alarm.

Some time ago, Kaito and Kyougoku had a match against each other once.

“N, nope. It must be your imagination.”

“Ha ha ha………” Kid laughed and next to him, children holding ice-cream ran past him.

(T/N: A moment lost in novelisation here. In the movie, Kaito actually threw up his left hand because he was afraid Makoto could identify him by his right hand. *or was it the other way round)

“Then, we already saw the Merlion so we should be getting back to the hotel.”

Sonoko pulled on Makoto’s arm and he showed a troubled and embarrassed expression.

“Ah…….about that…….”

Walking in the opposite direction of the pier, there was an ice cream cart that was pulled along by a bike underneath the viaduct of an expressway. There was a line of tourists who could not endure the sweltering heat.

Conan and the rest also bought ice cream from the same cart that moved below the viaduct.

“You’re unable to participate in the tournament–?!”

Sonoko raised her voice without thinking when she heard about Makoto’s situation from him.

“Sorry. For the tournament this time, I received an invite from someone to enter it…….”

“In other words, a sponsor?”

Kid asked and Kyougoku nodded saying “Yes.”

“This lawyer by the name of Sherilyn Tan. I wanted to give this tournament a shot since she covered all the travel and lodging expenses. However, she suddenly died……”

Kid, who was munching on ice cream that was sandwiched between wafers suddenly stopped moving for a second and then glanced at Conan.

“Someone related to her told me that all that has been cancelled today.”

“How awful……”

In front of Sonoko who appeared disappointed, Kyougoku also lowered his head, feeling disheartened.

“The strongest competitors in Singapore were going to show up in this event. Just once, I would like to compete against them……”

Kyougoku looked at the advertisement poster that was near to Conan which had the words “Singapore Karate Tournament”. Unlike the advertisement that had the picture of the championship belt, this one had large photos of people who seemed to be the participants.

“Alright then!”

All of a sudden, Sonoko raised her voice and took out her smart phone.

“S-Sonoko?”

“I will become your sponsor!”

“Ehh?!”

“Leave it to me!”

Everyone was stunned then Sonoko briskly walked away from where they were and spoke over the phone softly.

“Ah, Oji-sama? I have a favour to ask……”

It appears that she had called Suzuki Jirokichi.

(As expected of the heiress of the Suzuki Corporation……)

Conan was impressed. In a matter of minutes, Sonoko ended her call.

“It’s all settled!”

Then she showed a victory sign.

“Makoto-san, it’s possible for invited participants to enter!”

“Really, Sonoko-san!”

“Yup!”

Sonoko nodded then she glanced at Ran. With a delighted expression, she hugged Ran and whispered softly.

“I made Makoto-san go to the same hotel as us. This way, it’ll be a double date <3.”

“…….Y, you’re right.”

Ran looked at Shinichi who was letting out a big yawn next to Kogorou.

“If we’re done talking, let’s go back to the hotel. I want to down some beers soon.”

Kogorou, who was unable to endure the humidity and high temperatures, walked out from under the viaduct and walked in the direction of the hotel.

“Mouri-san?”

A local young man walked out from shade and called out in Japanese.

“Would you be Mouri Kogorou-san?”

“Ah? Yeah……”

“I’m Rishi. I’m an auxiliary police officer. It’s an honour to meet you.”

Rishi showed his identification then stuck out his right hand ecstatically.

Kogorou got caught up in the moment and also stuck out his right hand then Rishi grabbed it with both hands and shook it forcefully.

“Um……an auxiliary police officer……?”

“Yup. I major in criminal psychology and I’ve get asked to help in particular investigations.”

“Ah, I see……”

Kogorou said, showing some interest, then Rishi begin to talk saying “Actually……”

“I got information that Mouri-san would be travelling here so I was waiting for you to show up.”

“Waiting?”

“Yes. A lot of tourists come to this place so if I waited here, I would definitely get to meet you.”

“But…….why me?”

“Well, I want to borrow Mouri-san’s power to take care of a case.”

Kogorou’s eyebrows twitched when he heard that there was a case. Kogorou closed the paper fan he was using to fan himself with a snap then shook his head.

“Ah—nope, nope. I’m in the middle of a vacation!”

Then Kid, who was disguised as Shinichi, quietly approached Kogorou and spoke to him softly.

“Actually, I think it would be better to go along with him.”

“Anh? Why?”

“If we get along well with this auxiliary police officer, he probably can introduce us to some stores with cheap and delicious food…… he probably knows something about the casino too……”

Kogorou, who was having some unintelligible secret conversation with Kid, swiftly opened his fan and said,

“Yeah! Well, that might happen.”

He flashed a grin at Rishi and then cleared his throat.

“Alright! I, the great detective, Mouri Kogorou, shall specially lend you my power!”

(Oi oi.)

Conan reacted within his heart as he witnessed Kogorou’s attitude change with a wave of a hand.

Rishi’s face lit up in delight.

“I’m honoured. Detective Mouri is the hero from my father’s homeland and I’m also a big fan!”

Ran suddenly showed her face beside Kogorou who was all smiles.

(T/N: Another lost in novelisation moment. At this part, Ran was supposed to be staring at Kaito suspiciously.)

“Your father was Japanese? No wonder your Japanese is……”

“So, what about the case?”

Kogorou held back his greedy expression and asked,

“Actually, this thing arrived at a businessman’s home……”

Rishi showed the display of his smart phone. Kogorou, Sonoko and the rest looked at the display without hesitation and all of them opened their mouths at what they saw.

“Kaito Kid!” “Kid-sama!”

The smartphone’s display showed an image of a card that had Kaito Kid’s mark on it.
