Chapter 4

A thin crescent moon peaked through the clouds, illuminating a white triangular pair of wings flying through the night sky.

That was Kaito Kid’s hang glider.

He gallantly flew towards the high class residential street near the Marina Bay Sands where Leon’s mansion was located.

Leon Lowe’s mansion had security guards all over carrying out strict security measures. Even in the large garden, there were security personnel with Doberman dogs and flashlights patrolling the area. Kid’s hang glider flew high above their heads.

Kid landed in a dark part of the middle garden and after making sure that there was no one around him, he flipped himself into the corridor using his hand and ran. At places where there were swivelling security cameras, he timed their movements to get to their blind spots before turning corners and soon he had entered the middle of the building.

“Easy-peasy♪ ”

Kid turned another corner down the corridor and entered a narrow passageway. He let out a “Woah”.

The passageway which did not seem to have anything at a glance had infrared sensors lined along it.

Kid, who had worn Infrared goggles, jumped towards the wall. Kicking off from the wall, he leapt over the sensor. Kicking off from the walls on both sides further down, he skilfully performed a triangle jump and moved forward in one go.

The elevator that was solely used to access the vault had stopped in the basement.

Kid manually opened the elevator door on the first floor and using a wire gun, he descended upon the elevator carriage, opened the hatch on top of the carriage and stuck his head through upside down. The door of the elevator opened and from there, all the way down the passageway, the door to the vault could be seen. There was no one around at all.

Kid, who was hanging upside down from the hatch using his feet, shot the wire gun towards the door of the vault. The wire flew out of the muzzle and the hook at the end caught onto the door. With a sharp sound, he pulled on the wire to ensure it was stuck then he retracted the wire back quickly and moved in a flash to the front of the vault.

Landing on the large lock, Kid donned a glove that had Leon’s fingerprints printed on it onto his right hand and placed It against the glass monitor. Leon’s fingerprints were taken when he shook hands with him in the day. Then, he entered the code on the keyboard that was installed across the monitor.

The door opened and Kid set foot into the vault.

“This is way too easy….?”

Leon was pretty confident about the security measures of this place but it was ridiculous how easy it was to infiltrate this place. Zhong Han also asserted that this was “A unique production”…….

In the dimly lit room, Kid took out a mini flashlight and shone it on the countless boxes on the eight sided wall. Once he did so, the box that was about ten metres up on the right side of the wall in front of him glowed slightly. It was that box that Kid stealthily marked in the day.

“I’ve been waiting for you.”

Suddenly, there was a voice coming from in front of him. Kid swiftly turned towards the front.

“Kaito Kid. You made it all the way here, just as expected from you.”

That was Leon’s voice. Leon walked out from the shadows of the central pillar and he smiled, raising an eyebrow as he looked at Kid.”

“You sure are full of confidence.”

“My apologies but I cannot hand the jewel over. I do not wish to pay any compensation fee to Zhong Han Chen.”

“Stealing treasures like that is my job. Also the harder the item is to steal, the more I get fired u…p!”

Before Kid could finish talked, he spun around and quickly fired two shots of his card gun at Jamaluddin who had quietly approached him.

“Hmph!”

Jamaluddin kicked away one of the cards and caught the second one in his mouth as he fell backward.

At that moment, something pierced Kid’s back and an intense current ran through his entire body.

“Gahhh!”

That was a stun gun that Leon had fired. Kid, who had two electrode needles stuck in his back, convulsed and then collapsed onto the floor.

“Hmph, it’s over.”

Leon lowered the stun gun and left the vault. Jamaluddin who was still in front of the door spat the playing card out of his mouth.

The door closed and the gigantic locks that were split to the left and right sides connected in front of the door. Leon placed his right hand on the glass monitor. Once he did so, eight metal pillars appeared from the floor and interlocked diagonally with each other. The monitor displayed the word “LOCK”.

“I hope Singapore’s waters suits your taste.”

(T/N: Well, Singapore has this reverse osmosis water treatment plant that treats sewage water….it was a joke that we were drinking toilet water last time)

Leon said in the direction of the vault then he left with Jamaluddin, leaving Kid behind.

Just as one realised that there was water gushing from the floor of the vault that Kid had collapsed on to, suddenly the shutter on the ceiling started to close. Furthermore, waterproof walls rose up from the bed and one by the one, each of the eight walls were covered.

Water gradually flowed out and in no time at all, Kaito, who had passed out, was submerged. Four large pillars of water gushed upwards as the water level rose in the room.

(!!)

As Kid was getting carried along by the water current, he finally woke up as he was struggling to breath and gurgled as the air left his lungs.

Looking upwards, he saw that the water had already rose close to the ceiling.

(I never thought he would really use a taser on me…….)

Kid pulled out the taser probes that were stuck in his back and swam towards the central pillar. However, he kept getting tossed around by the fast current. Even so, he managed to swim down close to the floor and somehow got close to the pillar. He fired several shots using his card gun towards the gap of the panel that was on the pillar.

This was the limit in which he could hold his breath. And again, he exhaled.

Kid stopped shooting the panel with his card gun and kicked it forcefully. Once he did so, the panel got detached and large amounts of air spurted from the pillar.

At one go, water flowed through the centre of the hollow pillar and Kid was carried along by the water current into the pillar. While being tossed around by the current, he slowly rose up through the centre of the pillar—

During that time. Kyougoku, who had made plans with Jamaluddin, was training within Leon’s mansion. The training room which was specially used by Jamaluddin was much too spacious for one person and it had every machine that one could use to train.

Kyougoku was wearing his dojo gi and lowering a barbell from its rack onto his chest as he laid on the bench of the bench press.

Above the vault which was deep below the ground, there was a basement that was filled with a lot of large machinery. Within it, a hatch suddenly opened and water flowed out of it.

Kid who came out with the large amounts of water coughed out the water from his lungs and went towards the staircase that led upwards.

“Kid!”

Once Kid walked out to the passageway on the first floor, he was immediately noticed by a security guard and chased.

Kid fired his card gun and ran away but the guard who was struck by the card got up quickly and fired using his machine gun. As Kid turned the corner, the edge of the wall was struck and crumbled.
(T/N: ….machine gun…more like a semi-automatic right?)

“Are you serious?!”

As Kid ran, he pressed the remote switch he had with him.

“Uwoh!”

A smoke bomb that was at the foot of the security guard who was giving chase exploded and large amounts of smoke spread throughout the area.

At the same time, smoke bombs that were placed in various areas of the building blew up as well, and the large manor was enveloped in smoke.

The smartphone belonging to Leon who was in the elevator together with Jamaluddin rang.

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s Kid!!”

After hearing his subordinate’s frantic commotion, Leon slowly blinked.

“Stop panicking. I’m always one step ahead.”

The large amount of smoke that was released by the smoke bomb spread even to the courtyard and the surrounding area was shrouded.

“A first rate will always make his move with consideration of the worst-case scenario.”

Kid pocketed his remote control and leapt over the handrails of the corridor into the courtyard.

“I should get out of this place as soon as possible!”

He ran out of the courtyard as the smoke was clouding his vision.

Half-way round the courtyard, Kid felt something unusual and stopped. He turned his head back and

“There!”

One of Leon’s subordinates had appeared on the right sided path and was pointing his gun at Kid. Kid continued facing forward and he stretched his right arm out to his side before shooting his card gun. The card that was in the gun struck the subordinate’s pistol.

Kid, a bold grin appearing on his face, dashed into the smoke. He turned into the left side of the East Wing and rushed forward.

Then, a silhouette appeared in the middle of the smoke. The shadow then approached with an amazing speed.

Kid swiftly got his card gun in a ready position and shot it at the shadow. However, the silhouette dodged the card without much difficulty and like a gale, slipped past Kid’s side.

“!”

Kid flipped himself and quickly shot his card gun a second time.

The smoke thinned out and the figure appeared—with the card that Kid shot clamped between his fingers, it was Kyougoku Makoto.

“Eh?!”

In that split second when Kid’s eyes widened, Kyougoku, having lowered his body, launched himself forward.

“SEI!!”

A powerful round house kick was executed which Kid managed to dodge then Kyougoku swiftly used a straight punch right at Kid’s chest. Kid moved back slightly and used a turning kick. Kyougoku locked both arms together and did a round house kick which launched Kid’s card gun into the air.

“!!”

A strong punch came flying at Kid who just realized that his card gun had been kicked into the air. Kid’s body was knocked flying backwards for quite a distance.

Pressing down on his solar plexus, Kid coughed.

“What a punch….If I didn’t jump backwards, I’ll be in big trouble….”

The fist which he managed to avoid a direct hit with because he jumped backward mere inches before it made contact  was so strong that it produced an air pressure that still threw him backward.

“You’re…trespassing on private property….you know that?”

“…….By the way, why are you here?”

Kid raised his face and as he did so, Kyougoku touched a plaster that was pasted horizontally on his left brow.

“I only came here because I was invited to train if I so wished, but I never thought I would be having a match with you.”

“No no, I don’t want to do anything like that…..”

Kid, who was moving a single hand which he held out, looked around his surroundings. Leon’s subordinates have gathered around.

“Don’t waste your breath!”

In one go, Kyougoku rushed towards Kid and he attacked again and again with a series of punches and kicks.

“Wai……!”

As Kid said something while being at a cramped space, he tried to push Kyougoku away but,

“Prepare yourself….!!”

Kyougoku single-mindedly rushed towards him–!

“Ku!”

Kid picked up his card gun which fell nearby and aimed the muzzle at Kyougoku. For some reason, a smile appeared on his mouth.

“?!”

Kyougoku turned around to look behind and then—a white round object could be seen in the night sky. For a split second, he thought it was the moon, wrong. It became bigger as it came closer.

It was a gigantic soccer ball.

“SEI!!”

Kyougoku punched the soccer ball that was approaching at a fearsome speed. At the same time the ball tore apart into pieces and its remnants scattered everywhere, the wind pressure it released stirred up the smoke that was floating around the East Wing.

“Soc, soccer ball….where did it come from……”

Kyougoku looked up into the night sky, flabbergasted.

Conan, who had his Criminal Tracking Glasses and Ball Shooting Belt on him, was on top of the roof of a certain high-rise hotel. A noise was made as he tapped the toe of his Kick Enhancing shoes.

In front of Conan’s gaze was the scene of smoke rising from Leon’s mansion.

“Thank you, great detective!”

Kid carried a propeller that was attached to an engine which was hidden in the courtyard on his back and then pulled a rope to start the engine. The propeller started to turn and Kid ran out. His hang glider’s wings spread wide opened and he flew straight up the front of the building. One of Leon’s subordinates who was on the second floor corridor got surprised by Kid, who was flying, and fell back on his rear end.

Kid’s hang glider few out from Leon’s mansion and gradually rose higher, flying above the streets of Singapore.

Kid turned his head back to look at the gigantic propeller that was attached to the engine he had on his back.

“This is amazing! I can fly freely even if there’s no wind. Gotta thank Jii-chan for that!”

However—as he looked down at Leon’s mansion that had become small, Kid’s expression darkened.

(For him to go that far……)

As someone who had escaped by thinking of the very worst possibility, he honestly never thought that Leon would be able to see so far ahead.

Kid approached the high-rise hotel and he descended to fly up towards the roof.

Conan was standing on the roof top with a grim expression and Kid approached him from his back and grabbed the latter with both arms before flying up again.

“You saved my hide there. It was the right decision to return you your gadgets just in case.”

“It’s not like I wanted to save you.”

Ha ha….Kid let out a strained laughter.

“Rather than that, isn’t it about time you told me the actual reason why you brought me here?”

Right after Conan asked that question, Kid let out a pfft kind of laugh and quickly descended with his hang glider.

“Uwahhh!!”

A tall building which had appeared small came closer in front of his eyes and Conan let out a cry without thinking. Kid’s hang glider descended and went in between the gaps of two tall buildings like it was being sucked through before the nose pointed upwards and slipped through the space between the buildings.

“It’s not like you to actually strut into the enemy’s base like what you did earlier tonight.”

“There was a bit of a mess after the “Fist of Blue Sapphire” got pulled out.”

“A mess?”

Hugging Conan’s body tightly, Kid weaved in and out between buildings and as they passed one of the high-rise mansions, a dog noticed the hand glider and started barking.

“Leon has been looking for the “Fist of Blue Sapphire” for a number of years before this but the one who pulled it out one step before him was Zhong Han Chen. It seems like someone leaked the position of the sunken ship to him.”

A monitor had been installed on the wall of one of the high-rise buildings and it was showing some of the news. Images of Sherilyn Tan when she was alive and her funeral were being shown on the screen. She was the one who was killed at Marina Bay Sands.

“The one who draws the most questions now is Sherilyn Tan. For a period of time, she was the legal advisor for Leon’s company but the relationship between the two worsened. Rumours have it that she became Kyougoku’s sponsor because—”

“It’s to stop Jamaluddin’s victory. In other words, she got in the way of Leon getting his hands on the jewel.”

Conan answered before the statement could be finished and Kid looked at Conan with a broad grin.

“It that were really true, then the rumours that information about the sunken ship was leaked has a ring of truth to them.”

At that time, a sudden gust of wind blew at them.

The hang glider that lost control because of the sudden gust of wind spun as it fell between the gaps of the buildings. Kid quickly stiffened his posture and ascended one of the buildings.

“Oops, my bad, my bad.”

And a light apology was given. Conan was breaking out into cold sweat.

(Oi oi, please….)

Kid who had ensured that the aircraft was moving stably continued to speak.

“Then Sherilyn Tan was killed.”

“If the rumours about the leak was true, then Leon would have a motive to kill off Sherilyn. What do the police think?”

The hang glider made a large turn to the left. The crowd of buildings seemed to move apart and the building that was characteristic and located at the end of Marina Bay could be seen.

“Unfortunately, Leon was removed from the list of suspects.”

“Why?”

Conan asked.

The hang glider soared in the sky above Marina Bay Sands.  The lit up pool on the roof top could be seen beneath them.

“There’s a more likely suspect.”

“Suspect……?”

“The police haven’t made it public but there was a card left behind at the scene of Sherilyn Tan’s murder. An advanced notice from me.”

Conan’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Now I get it……”

Kid said those words indifferently but quite likely his heart was quietly seething in rage. Therefore, he suddenly went into the enemies’ stronghold in a reckless manner.

(But….)

Conan looked down at the beautiful night scenery that had been praised to be like a jewel spreading out beneath him.

(Why do I have to look at such an amazing scenery with this guy.)

In any case, if there was someone I want to see this together with—Ran’s figure floated into Conan’s head.

Kid’s hang glider landed at one corner of the roof top pool where there was not much people.

Kid folded the hang glider underneath his mantle and he hid at a space that was covered with plants next to the deck chairs. Then after removing Conan’s glasses, belt and shoes, he put sandals on Conan’s feet. Right after that, he pushed Conan’s back and out of the plant growth.

“It’s time for you to return to being Arthur Hirai. By the way, Arthur comes from Arthur Conan Doyle, isn’t it? But where did Hirai come from?”

“About that….” Conan’s eyes drifted sideways as though he was embarrassed.

“I got it from Edogawa Rampo’s real name, Hirai Tarou.”

“I see.”

“More importantly, that guy is clearly setting up a trap!”

Conan warned Kid then Kid stood up and raised his silk hat slightly.

“I know. That’s why I brought you with me, great detective. You’re good at these kinds of things, aren’t you?”

And with that, Kid raised his hand which was holding the Kick Enhancing shoes.

“……I understand your reasons but I can’t agree with your methods.”

“I, Kid-sama, can’t possibly stay quiet about this can I?!”

Kid grabbed his clothes and with a sudden pull—he had become Shinichi in a split second.

At the edge of the hundred and fifty metre narrow pool, Ran was in the water with her hands on the rim and absent-mindedly gazing at the night scenery.

Water was flowing down the outside of the rim into a drain and there was a barrier as well, but none were higher than the water surface so the field of view was completely unobstructed, as though they were floating in space and from there it was possible to see Singapore’s lit skyline at one glance.

Kid, disguised as Shinichi, jumped into the pool and the splashing sound made Ran turn her head.

“You’re so slow, I was waiting for you all this time.”

While letting out a complaint, a smile formed on Ran’s face.”

“Sorry, sorry.”

Kid stood next to Ran and Ran looked ahead, saying “Hey, look.”

“What a lovely nightscape……how romantic <3.”

As she said that, she took a step closer and grabbed Kid’s hand before leaning close to him.

“!”

Ran’s bold actions caused Kid’s heart to beat faster.

“You don’t have to be so shy. We’re already dating, aren’t we?”

“Ye, yeah….” (Eh, is that so?!)

Kid got surprised and turned his head back towards the deckchairs that were lined up against the pool side and saw Conan glaring at him with an irritated face while seated on the bottom of the steps.

As he did so, Sonoko who was near Conan’s side with two bottles of water in her hands came towards him.

“Fu fu, those two are really a match. Don’t you think so?”

“Is, is it?”

“It’s bad to disturb them.”

Once Sonoko said that, she walked towards the path above the stairs.

Conan was left behind and he faced the direction of the pool once more. Ran and Kid were being intimately close with each other, their shoulders touching while gazing at the nightscape.

(Damn, that Ran. Doesn’t she realise that he’s a fake. But if she did realise it, I won’t be able to return to Japan.”

Conan became increasingly bothered as he thought about it more and more and then he scratched his head with an internal (Aaa~~~~~!!).

At that point of time. Mouri Kogoro was by himself, drinking alcohol at the prestigious [Long Bar] at [Raffles Hotel].

Inside the store which had Rattan table sets of a nostalgic colour, nearly everyone was a guest of Raffles Hotel and they were drinking the [Singapore Sling], eating the heaps of peanuts that were free to take from the table and the shells fell on the floor.

“Gah~~~~~! When it comes to Singapore, it has got to be the Singapore Sling!”

Kogorou who was seated at the counter seat finished his Singapore Sling at one go, “One more glass!” and he passed the empty glass to the bartender.

“Mouri-san?”

The sudden voice caused him to turn his head and standing there was a young lady of Chinese descent with a cocktail in her hand.

That was Leon’s secretary, Rachael Cheong. Her long black hair and her fringe that was cut straight across framed her face to make her beautiful features stand out more.

“A, ahhh……you are…..”

“Do you mind if I sit here?”

Kogorou stood up immediately and gestured at the neighbouring stool.

“Go, go, go ahead, go ahead! Let’s drink together.”

Rachael approached Kogorou and rested the cocktail in her right hand onto the counter. The tips of her fingers brushed against Kogorou’s left hand.

“Actually I………”

Rachael, whose face got close to Kogorou’s, saw a familiar back at the corner of her vision and suddenly looked to her side.

Seated at the table at the back was a large man whose back was facing their direction. And next to that man was another who was glancing in Rachael’s direction.

“Ah.”

The cocktail that was in Rachael’s hand tipped over and the alcohol spilt on Kogorou’s chest.

“Oh no. What am I doing!”

She took out a handkerchief and started wiping Kogorou’s clothes.

“I’m really, sorry.”

After that, Rachael even unbuttoned Kogorou’s vest and stuck her hand into it to continue wiping his chest.

“Ah, it’s fine, don’t worry about it. He he he…..”

Just as Kogorou was fawning over Rachael in a lecherous manner, the hotel boy came over.

“There’s a call for Mister Mouri.”

Kogorou who got spoken to in English by the hotel boy stared, looking puzzled, not understanding what was just said.

“Mouri-san, it seems like there’s a phone call for you.”

Rachael translated the statement for him immediately.

“For me? Who?”

Kogorou walked out thinking that the situation was strange then Rachael stopped him by calling his name “Mouri-san.”

“There’s something that I really must tell you.”

Rachael quickly approached Kogorou and she held out a name card with both hands and made Kogorou hold it.

“Tomorrow, come here.”

Once she said that, she turned on her heel and quickly ran off. Right after that, Jamaluddin and Leon’s subordinates who were seated at the back of the shop stood up and headed from the exit.

“…………….?—Jeez.”

Kogorou watched as Rachael left in a hurried manner and then stared at the name card that was handed to him.

Kogorou was shown to the lobby by the hotel boy and he took the phone receiver from the front staff. Using the Rachael’s name card as a fan and fanning himself with it, he put the phone receiver next to his ear.

“Hello? Hello?”

However the line had been cut off.

“What the heck, they hung up!”

He put the receiver back with a clack.

“Ugh! I’m going for another drink~~~~~! Taa~! Singapore Sling!”

And he headed in the direction of Long Bar once more.
